Hard work ahead for boys at Kelham Road
3:41pm Wed Sep 01, 2010
Newark Rugby Club will be dependent on a group of young front five forwards when the new season kicks off at Kelham Road tomorrow against Matlock in Midlands One East (3pm).
Matt Cox of Newark Rugby Club clears his lines in the warm-up match against Loughborough University at Kelham Road on Saturday afternoon.
The new campaign brings opportunities for a number of players to grab first team places, especially up front following a couple of summer departures.

Club captain Harry Pick and the Barnsdale brothers, Jason and Craig, will be the main prop resources alongside hooker Ian Tomlinson, the new 1st XV captain.

Newark are still searching for new additions at prop to cover for Elliot Booley’s decision to re-join Loughborough University, while veteran Mick Barker will only be playing occasionally.

Two others players looking to cement places will be at lock where Richard Primett and Fred Tatham will be leading the way in the absence of Jon Evans, last season’s player of the year, who has yet to train, and the decision of Liam Mather to join ambitious Derby.
