Haywood stars in Mini League

Having got used to winning over the winter both indoors and at cross country, Newark Athletic Club’s younger members had to content themselves with fourth place in the first Notts Mini League track and field meeting of the season at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Stadium.
With football and other sports not yet having finished, it was a small team line-up by recent standards.

Nevertheless, 17 determined and talented athletes competed in the sunshine in Nottingham, ensuring that the club finished respectably, with no fewer than five of the Newark competitors securing victories.

Under-11 Chantelle Haywood not only won the long jump with a leap of 3.50m, but she was also named as female athlete of the match for field events.

Her fellow under-11, the ever improving Jake Ludlam, comfortably won the 600m in a time of 1min 57.00secs.
