The host club’s Reg and Marjorie Dove won the mixed open competition at Newark Golf Club with a stableford betterball score of 46 points.
The husband and wife team beat another Newark pairing of John Williams and Jill Todd into second place by two points.

Marjorie, a 22 handicapper, got the pair off to a flying start, playing the first five holes in two-over gross, and she finished strongly with a birdie two at the 17th and a par at the 18th.

In between, seven handicapper Reg birdied the seventh and 11th and also made six pars, giving the pair an excellent score of 46 points to lift the championship trophies ahead of the 89 other pairs in the competition.

The Orchards Golf Club at Brinkley near Southwell, formed by Ann and Ted Green in 2000, celebrated its tenth anniversary on Saturday with a friendly competition followed by a strawberry tea for 120 members and friends.

The team winners of the nine-hole draw were Rachael and Peter Tew and Rosanne and David Styles, plus Sheena and Paul Fairclough, Brian Hill and Chris Hardy.

The club has progressed from strength to strength over its ten years and now has members who regularly play on ladies’ day on Tuesdays and men’s day on Thursdays, plus many other competitions during the year.

This year the club was represented in the EWGA Regional Final at Swaffham Golf Club in Norfolk by Lynda Jordan, who finished a creditable 29th out of 109 players.

She and Maire Pitkin have also qualified for the Ping Women’s Four-Ball Betterball Plate Final at Gainsborough on September 6.

The club will be represented by Scott Clinton and Andree Bust at Forest of Arden in the Disability 2010 competition for the Leonard Cheshire charity on the same day.
