The Newark Jaguars Under-15 wheelchair basketball team retained their national championship in Sheffield on Saturday.
The best 16 teams in the UK arrived in Sheffield for the Lord’s Taverners play-off finals, with the Jaguars already having won the Northern Section of the National Junior Wheelchair Basketball League.

The Newark side brought with them a formidable reputation as the reigning national champions, having been unbeaten for two years.

The Jaguars started with a comfortable 25-12 victory over Thames Valley Kings in the quarter-finals, and it proved to be a useful warm-up ahead of a very competitive semi-final against Manchester Mavericks.

At half-time the quick Mavericks were holding the Jaguars at 14-14 in a very edgy game where both offensive lines were in control.
