Johnson is top junior at Newark tournament

Max Johnson, playing in his first qualifying round of the year, won Newark Golf Club’s Junior Open to gain a three-day coaching session at the Lee Westwood Academy.
Johnson saw off the challenge of 50 other youngsters and produced a career best nett 57 after shooting an 83 off his 26 handicap.
A gross 73 won the boys’ Daily Telegraph Qualifier for Adam Hindmarsh of Carholme, while a gross 86 by Amy Oxbury of Norwood clinched the girls’ honours.
Daniel Oliver (76-11-65) of Newark was second in the Junior Open, eight shots adrift of Johnson, while third place went to Newark’s James Larking (93-28-65).
The annual Men’s Open Am/Am was won by Newark Golf Club captain of Maurice Mayfield and his team of Fraser Macintyre, David Howson and Andy Roe with a score of 162, and excellent 19 shots under par.
