Lowe to face Maughan in battle of Nottinghamshire
11:47am Wed Jan 25, 2012
Newark fighter Andrew Lowe has set a date for his return to the ring, but it will not involve a defence of his hard-fought British Masters Middleweight title.
The former Royal Marine, 31, will instead vacate his title, won convincingly at the second time of asking against Pocklington's Harry Matthews, to drop down to his more natural fighting weight of light-middleweight and is set to take on Snienton's Terry Maughan in a fiery all Nottinghamshire match-up.
Both boxers will battle it out for the vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight title at the Grove Leisure Centre, Balderton, on April 7, with Lowe, ranked 27th in the UK, looking to become a two-weight Masters champion.
Lowe's record now reads ten wins, one within the distance, six losses and the one draw - the second of a trilogy of fights against Matthews.
This compares to 26-year-old Maughan's record of six wins, one of which was a four-round decision against Navenby's Ryan Clark, and two defeats.
Maughan is ranked 49th in the UK at 154lbs.
