Marshall takes charge at Open

The latest Newark Midweek Open was fished at East Stoke and Rolleston and, despite the river remaining low and clear, there were plenty of fish caught.
There was a close finish in the end, although the result could have been much different.
Winner on the end peg 23 at East Stoke was Tony Marshall, who had a 3lb bream down the edge to start and then switched to his usual approach of pole and hemp to whip out 18lb of roach for a total of 21-2-0.
Colin Walton on peg 15 at Rolleston fished a groundbait feeder to take two bream and 20 skimmers for 20-9-0 and second place.
Two pegs away, Pete Salt fished similar tactics for five bream and third spot with 19-6-0.
Barry Bloodworth fished meat on a feeder on peg three at Stoke for four barbel to finish fourth with 15-2-0, while Terry Moroz was fifth with 12-6-0 of roach on waggler and maggot at Rolleston.
However, an unknown angler on peg one at Stoke should have won but, despite hooking ten barbel on feeder, waggler and pole, all ten were lost and he didn’t weigh in.
