Martin flies away with honours

The Southwell Golf Club lady captain Sheila Pawson enjoyed an excellent Captain’s Day which was well supported by her fellow members.
The individual stableford produced excellent scoring in both the ladies’ and men’s sections, with Liz Martin the top lady with a superb 42 points. Second place went to Carole Ablewhite with 41 points, while third spot was won by Kay Burr with 40 points.

Dave Powdrill produced an impressive 44 points to win the men’s section, while runners-up spot required a countback to separate Elliott Watts from Martin Tustin after both finished with 42 points.

The inaugural Scratch Open at Norwood Park saw the host club’s Lee Molloy win with two excellent rounds of (gross) 69 and 70.

Newark junior Ben White won his first competition when he claimed the Slaney Rollitt Cup after scoring 39 stableford points.

White, playing his first full season at Newark, has had nine shots knocked off his 36 handicap since the start of this season.
