Maurice Mayfield is looking forward to his year as captain of Newark Golf Club after a lifetime devoted to sport.
He worked at Worthington Simpson for 46 years and represented the firm at football, and was also a keen racquets player and secretary of the squash league at the Grove in the 1970s.

Mayfield joined Newark Golf Club in 1974 and has enjoyed 36 years of continuous membership.

He has been a member of the greens committee during most of the period of the course improvement programme that will be completed this year.

His first duty as captain was at the match at home to Gainsborough where he and club professional Robert Ellis got the home team off to a good start, winning five-and-four, only for Newark to lose 5-3 overall.
