Shona McCallin, the former Newark Hockey Club Otters and Beavers player, is now rubbing shoulders with some of the sport’s finest.
Top challenge... former Newark Otters and Beavers player Shona McCallin (left) in action for Dutch side MOP in Eindhoven during their promotion-winning campaign.
The 19-year-old from Dry Doddington has just finished her first season in Holland, playing for MOP near Eindhoven.

The midfielder helped her side gain promotion into the Premier League, which is considered to be the top women’s hockey league in the world.

“It was difficult to adapt to the sport out there at first, because in Holland they play a different style of hockey to England, and it is a much higher intensity,” she said.

“It is a bit more technical, but I’m training four times a week, and I feel a lot fitter for that.”
