Newark 43 Aylestone St James 5
Newark notched up seven tries against Aylestone St James to continue their unbeaten run at the top of Midlands Two East North.

A burst of three tries in 12 minutes before half-time settled the contest watched by a decent crowd at Kelham Road including the 1981-82 squad who won the Notts Cup.

After Alex Moore had opened the scoring in the seventh minute, Newark had to wait more than a quarter of the game before the centre again burst clear for his second try and a lead of 14-0, Matt Cox having converted both tries.

Two tries in quick succession just before the interval brought up Newark’s bonus point.

Aloesi Waqalevu, who remained at centre after playing so well at Ashbourne the previous week, touched down for the third try before No 8 James Price forced his way over.

Cox converted all four tries in the first half and added a try himself three minutes into the second half to put Newark 33-0 ahead.

Aylestone St James grabbed a try back in the 48th minute but Newark finished on top through tries by hooker Ian Tomlinson and Cox.
