Newark athletes setting the pace

Hammer thrower Simon Langley of Newark Athletic Club was in fine form at the Northern League meeting at Grantham.
Despite Newark AC being the only athletic club in the Northern League not able to host a meeting in their own town, a number of superb performances at Grantham saw them dominate the second meeting of the season in Division 4EC.
Balderton’s Grove Leisure Centre last hosted athletic track and field meetings in the early 1980s, but Newark claimed no fewer than 21 first places at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium, making it the most successful match since the team joined the Northern League structure seven seasons ago.
For the women, first places were gained by Eloise McQuaid in the A 100m (12.70secs, personal best) and 200m (26.30, pb) Lauren Rowberry in the B 100m (13.60, pb) and 200m (28.00, pb) Eleanor Ripley in the B 400m (69.80, pb) and the A 400m hurdles (77.10) Emma Jessop in the A 800m (2mins 28.60 secs) Becky Taylor in the B 1500m (5-29.30, pb) Cloe Hubbard in the B 3,000m (11-45.30, pb) and finally the 4x100m relay team made up of Ripley, Rowberry, Hannah Watson and McQuaid (54.60secs). Amazingly, out of all the first place finishers, only Becky Taylor is not an under-17 athlete
Second place finishes for the women were achieved by Bethany Scotney in the B 800m (2mins 37.80secs) Cloe Hubbard in the A 1500m (5-25.30, pb) Becky Taylor in the A 3000m (11-46.60) Trish Hill in the B hammer (16.74m) Lauren Rowberry in the A discus (17.48m) Eloise McQuaid in the A long jump (4.76m) and finally the 4x400m relay team of Jessop, Scotney, Taylor and Hubbard.
The ever-dependable Ann Kitchen and Trish Hill competed in various events and gained a large number of points in the process.
