Newark Rugby Club had to settle for eighth place in Midlands One East after suffering a second successive defeat on Saturday when they lost 18-14 to Matlock at Kelham Road.

Coaches Bob Fowkes and Bob Nashed had hoped to gain at least sixth place, but defeats by Matlock and Syston pushed the team down two places.
