Newark's Saturday Open on the Upper Dyke attracted 20 anglers — less than normally fish the midweek opens.
The winner on peg 28 on the Weir Field was Lincoln’s John Small fishing a bolo rod with maggot for 12-14-0 of roach. Pete Hamilton was runner-up on peg 38 with one bream plus roach to finish with 12-12-0.
Paul Kozyra paid for his travelling from York with third place from peg 55 on Hudson’s Bay with one barbel on the straight lead and some bits for 11-5-0, while Tony Marshall’s pole and hemp approach on peg 47 was only good enough for fourth with 8-15-0.
The Wednesday Open saw 22 fishing on Crow Trees and Red Bridge where normal service was resumed, with Marshall taking 23-3-0 of quality roach from peg 18 on Red Bridge.
Keith Mumby was runner-up, fishing a groundbait feeder with maggot and worm on peg 23 on Red Bridge for 21-14-0 of skimmers, while Clive Fletcher was third on peg 21 with 14-4-0 on pole and hemp for roach.
