Scott stars at nationals

Amy Scott of Newark Athletic Club gave a stunning performance to claim a bronze medal at the British Sportshall Championships in the National Indoor Arena at Birmingham.
The 14-year-old was the only Nottinghamshire competitor, having been chosen to compete as an individual on the strength of her standing long jump at the previous county qualifiers.

She competed in three events, the shot putt, two-lap sprint and standing long jump, and managed to come away with a bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 1.38m. It wasn’t her personal best in the event, but a national medal was a great end to her sportshall competition as she is now too old to compete.

Pete Beaumont, the vice-chairman of Newark AC, said: “To win a medal at national level is an outstanding achievement.”
