Southwell flies flag for racing fraternity
9:27am Wed Dec 08, 2010
Southwell Racecourse came up trumps for the punters on Saturday when it provided one of only three race meetings in the country.
A good crowd of just under 1,000 braved the elements to watch seven races, three of which were shown live on Channel 4.

The punters got off to a winning start when the 5-4 favourite, Verus Decorus — trained by Pat Morris and ridden by James Sullivan — just made it home by a neck in the meeting’s opening race.

But that proved to be the only favourite that won during the day, and it was the bookmakers who went home with smiles on their faces after the 25-1 shot Hidden Glory romped home in the last race of the day.
