The Southwell Golf Club Men’s Foursome team produced another stunning performance to beat Newark Golf Club in the semi-final of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs County Foursomes.
It is the first time in the club’s history that Southwell have reached a county final, and they will now play at Hollinwell in a 36-hole match against Cotgrave Place Golf Club who beat a strong Beeston Fields side three-up in the other semi-final.

Team captain Chris Wright, partnered by Alan Asman, gave the Newark pair of Alex Clarricoates and Tom Ablewhite a lesson in matchplay by winning their game seven-up, and at one stage they were nine-up.

In the other match, the Southwell pairing of Brian Rice and Sam Wright had a close contest with the Newark pair of Joe Marum and Duncan Martin, only losing in the final holes to give Southwell an overall win of five-up.

The Newark Open saw the host club’s Steve Spilsbury and his partner Barry Linnington from Erewash Valley win the Kelwick Bowl after scoring 48 stableford points.
