Newark martial artist Jill Pearce has become only the second woman in the country to be awarded promotion to sixth degree black-belt.
The award recognises those who have given outstanding service to Tae Kwon-Do, with a minimum of 25 years dedication to the sport.

Jill received her certificate from grandmaster David Oliver, eighth degree black-belt and the president of Tae Kwon-Do International, at an awards ceremony in Newark.

Jill, who has run the Tae Kwon-Do club at The Grove School, Balderton, for 18 years, said: “I am thrilled to attain a role traditionally seen as an exclusive male domain.

“I hope this will give other women inspiration of what can be accomplished.”
