Title bid is mounting after rout of Retford

Farnsfield put themselves firmly into title contention in the Bassetlaw League Championship with a seven-wicket demolition of third-placed Retford at Station Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Retford batted first and made 204 for six, with Pascal Broadley leading the way with 52, but they had no answer to the in-form Mark Hanson who hit a fine 104 for the home side, and Andrew Ball weighed in with 36 as Farnsfield reached their target for the loss of three wickets.

The 18-point success means that Farnsfield replace Retford in third place, and are now just 19 points behind leaders Marshalls.

The bottom four clash between Ransome and Marles and Mansfield and Pleasley in Division One was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of a rain-affected wicket at Elm Avenue.

Ollerton suffered a blow when they were knocked off the top of Division Seven following a 100-run defeat at second-placed Anston 4ths.
