Willis steals the show at Haverholme

I’d never heard of stealer fish before. But my top spy was on the other end of the phone shouting about “stealer fish” in Haverholme Lake at Southwell’s match.
Phil Hall never mentioned anything when he rang the results through, and I was mystified.

It turns out that Stuart Willis foul-hooked a 15lb pike in the tail while fishing on the pole. The pike sluggishly came to the surface before it twigged what was happening and did 0-90mph in a milli-second, destroying his number four section and “stealing” the top three section of his pole.

A bit later, when he hooked a big carp, it ripped off with another top three. These stealer fish are very expensive.
