Youngsters pull weight in pool

There were some sparkling contributions from Newark Swimming Club’s younger members as the team earned second place in the Spring Gala competition at Retford.
The gala was an exciting one, with Newark in first place after 12 races but then dropping to third at the halfway point.

The club then had a fantastic spell with eight wins out of the next ten races that put them back into the lead, only to fall back and be pipped by Rykneld from Derbyshire at the end.

Youngsters Jacob Carrington and Olivia Wightman had two victories each, while there was one for Grace Rudd-Hearn.

There were also first touches for more established swimmers Millie Bowes-Hall (3) Benjamin Palmer (2) Will Ballard (2) Lewis Illsley (2) Olivia Mathias and the girls’ 14-and-under freestyle relay team.
