A teenage cyclist knocked down by a hit and run driver has amazed doctors after a speedy recovery from horrific head injuries.Kevin Taylor (17) of Sleaford Road, Coddington, needed plastic surgery after being hit by a red pick-up truck as he cycled between Aubourn and Brant Broughton.
Police have issued an appeal for public help as they bid to trace the driver.
Kevin suffered deep cuts and wounds to his face, head and hands. He returned home on Saturday after four days in the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. He had his stitches removed on Tuesday, just a week after the accident.
The few memories he has of his ordeal are painful but he is determined to help the police all he can.
Concussion and severe bleeding blurred his thoughts and vision but he believes that two men were in the pick-up, which reversed from the entrance to Broughton Low Farm and hit him.
Kevin was cycling with his head down, which meant his head and face suffered the full impact of the blow.
He is learning to drive and was familiarising himself with one of his possible test routes.
Kevin said: "A man got out of the pick-up and told me to move off the road quickly. He said he was going to put me in the farm entrance. I thought he was going to get help but he never came back."
Kevin was left for what he thinks was about 11/2 hours before he came to and realised that help was not on the way.
His mother, Mrs Linda Taylor, said: "Even if they did not want to get involved with the police I am disgusted to think that they did not even call for an ambulance. My son could have bled to death for all they knew."
Just before the collision Kevin can remember seeing a tractor with a yellow trailer, a red car and a blue car which could have been a Sierra.
The police have not traced any witnesses.
Kevin was rescued by passing motorist Mr Simon Looker, from Boothby Graffoe, while trying to make his way back to Newark.
Mrs Taylor said: "I dread to think what would have happened to Kevin if Mr Looker had not come to his rescue. I cannot thank him enough."
Mr Looker took Kevin to Newark Hospital but his injuries were so severe he was transferred to Nottingham for specialist treatment.
Sergeant Andy Roach, from Lincolnshire Police, said: "Kevin was very seriously injured and left for dead. The road is an isolated country lane with little through traffic so we have little to go on.
"We would like to hear from anyone who saw a pick-up type vehicle in the area at about 3pm."
