After 30 years of waiting, a Bingham preschool will finally have its own building when youngsters return in September.

Buttercross Preschool, based at Robert Miles Infants’ School, is having a modular building installed on the site.

The work will also create kitchen facilities, office space and an outdoor safe surface play area for the children.

Mrs Jane Morley, preschool manager, said she was very excited about the new building and couldn’t wait to move in.

“All the children are excited too because they know they are going to have their very own room,” she said.

“They have already been to see the diggers and the cranes that have been coming in to prepare the site and have even been over in their hard hats to have a closer look at what is going on.”

The preschool has been using a classroom at the infants’ school for five years. Before that, it was based at Wykeham House.

Mrs Morley said it had been wonderful to move to the school site because the children had been able to use the library and the hall.

“Hopefully we will continue to be part of the school when we move into the new modular building,” she said.

“We have got such a good relationship with the school. It is a great partnership and Mrs Baker, the head, has been very supportive of us.”

Building work started at the end of May and the modular building will be delivered this week.

The project was paid for through the Early Years Capital Grant Funding, which aims to improve the quality of the childcare sector environment.

The cost of the equipment and resources will be met by the preschool through various fundraising events they have held as well as a number of donations including £100 from Bingham Town Council and furniture from Millwood Education, Huddersfield.

Mrs Morley thanked parents and staff for their hard work.

She hopes to have a grand opening in September so everyone can see the pre-school’s new home.
