Newark MP Robert Jenrick announces winner of his annual competition to design his official Christmas card




Newark MP Robert Jenrick has announced the winner of an annual competition to design his official Christmas card.

The design by Jakob Nelson, a pupil at John Hunt Junior School, Balderton, will soon be landing on the doorsteps of some very prominent people after it was chosen from an exemplary field.

Jakob, 11, received a certificate from Mr Jenrick, who is the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, in front of the whole school.

Jakob’s design features on the front of the card and the category winners are on the back.

The winning pictures are on display in the Buttermarket where they will remain until the end of December.

Florence Walters, 9, from Orston Primary School, Alex Parker, 10, from Bleasby Church of England Primary, Ajay J, of Mount School, Freya Chandler, 8, of St Peter’s Cross Keys, Farndon, Krishan Kalia, 10, of Gunthorpe Church of England Primary and Daisy Bartlett, 10, of John Blow Primary, Collingham, were the category winners.

All children who participated will receive a certificate.

Mr Jenrick said he was particularly taken with Jakob’s design as it featured Santa Claus in a face mask, adding that his card had already been sent to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, where it was undoubtedly on the mantelpiece.

Jakob said: “I thought it was only fair Santa wore a face mask as the rest of us have to.

“I’m shocked Boris has a copy of my card.”
