155-mile effort for charity
Two pupils at the Dukeries College, Ollerton, ran a combined distance of 155 miles to raise money for a community workshop.
Jessica Tebbett, 14, and Hayley Coddington, 15, raised £190 for the Dukeries Community Workshop by running 80 and 75 miles respectively.
It took them three weeks to complete the distances during PE lessons, lunch breaks and after school.
They ran as part of the Dukeries College 15-mile challenge, organised each year to promote fitness.
Pupils were allowed to run for a charity of their choice.
Jessica said they chose the community workshop, which rents premises on the Dukeries Complex, because they knew lots of people who worked there.
“It helps everybody feel involved and also helps people with disabilities,” she said. “They are struggling for money so we decided to help them.”
The money was presented to the chairman of the community workshop, Mr Alan Taylor.
