New £400,000 development planned for Balderton Methodist Church community hub
A new £400,000 community hub is being planned for Balderton.
The proposal will transform the Balderton Methodist Church site on Main Street.
It will include the development of a community café with WiFi, and new rooms for activities to take place for the elderly and families during the day, as well as activities for young people in the evening.
Dave Watson, church treasurer, said: “This will be even more important as the community gets out of lockdown and those that have been particularly isolated during the time need help and support.
“We have already got planning permission to go ahead with the redevelopment and we are now in the process of raising money.
“We are seeking grants from various grant providers and have already raised around £90,000.”
The fundraising team has also looked to host activities over the internet.
“We are running a weekly online multiple-choice quiz on a Wednesday, which is free for everyone to use — all we ask for is a donation,” said Dave.
“This quiz stays online for a week and then a new one is available at 8pm on Wednesdays.”
The other fundraiser is a sponsored walk.
“We are having three teams of four who will go on a virtual relay walk from Balderton to London and back,” said Dave.
“Basically, as they go around the house, garden or on a local walks, they record their steps in their Fitbit.
“We update these figures on the internet and worked out where on the map they would have got to.”
