50 years ago: Lowe's Wong Infants' School, Southwell, opens its doors

Fifty years ago, the Advertiser reported on the opening of the new Lowe’s Wong Infants’ School at Southwell.

We have delved into our photographic archives to find the pictures we took at the time.

The Advertiser edition of January 9, 1971, reported: “There are varied activities to interest youngsters attending the new Southwell Lowe’s Wong Infants’ School, which opened its doors for the first time on Monday.

“Gone are the days when youngsters — especially those just starting school — are regimented into rows of desks. As the pictures show, tables form the work area.”

The Advertiser reported children practising on drums and xylophones, while a quieter area would be the library corner.
