More than 500 people attended a May fair at Lowe’s Wong infants’ and junior schools, Southwell, on Saturday.

Attractions included games, a tombola, a barbecue and a demonstration of Maypole dancing.

There was a police car and a fire engine for children to inspect.

A total of 150 children took part in a fun run.

The head of the infants’ school, Mrs Aly Speed, said about £2,000 was raised, which would be split between the two schools once costs had been paid.

“Both schools parents’ committees worked together to organise it,” she said.

Mrs Speed said they were pleased with how successful the event was.

She said: “The weather was beautiful. It was such a lovely day and there were so many happy people there.

“It was lovely to see the children out of uniform enjoying themselves with their parents.”

Mrs Speed said the infants’ school’s share would go towards a climbing frame for foundation stage children and school trips.

She said: “In the current economic climate it’s harder for a lot of parents, but at the same time the cost of school trips such as hiring buses has gone up but we still think it is important to take children out on visits.”
