500m hedgerow wildfire in Upton combatted by crews from Newark, Southwell and Collingham
Firefighters were called to the scene of a wildfire in Upton following reports of a large amount of vegetation alight after days of high temperatures.
Southwell Fire Station posted the update on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon, which read: "We are currently in attendance at a bush fire in Upton. Backed up by Collingham Fire Station and Newark Fire Station.
"Approximately 500m of hedgerow, trees and undergrowth alight.
"With the heat continuing and temperatures only predicted to increase please be safe while out in the country side as fires like this can spread fast."
The cause of the fire has not yet been found but the post was accompanied by the message: "Be mindful when disposing of any heat source such as cigarettes and portable barbecues."
The incident happened on a day that Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also warned on social media of the dangers of not properly properly disposing of cigarettes, the post read: "Please be careful when disposing of your cigarettes, as this can start a fire #WildFireAware."
The fire service encouraged the public to enjoy the weather but to stay safe whilst doing so.
