75-mile walk awaits
Friends planning a 75-mile walk from Southwell to Skegness in aid of Cancer Research UK will pass through Newark.
The organiser is Mr Geoff Crowson, 48, of Hucknall, who said that he, like so many people, knew people who had either died from cancer or were still battling with it and so he wanted to do what he could to help.
He said: “None of us are regular walkers. We are just a group of men aged 18 to 48 with one goal — to raise as much as possible.
“We know it will be hard going — blisters and all — but the money we raise on our sponsor forms will give us some incentive to reach the end of our walk.”
The group is appealing to people to put donations in their collection buckets as they walk through Newark past the police station and on towards Coddington.
They will set off on July 29 and aim to reach Skegness three days later. They will be camping along the way.
The rest of the group includes: his son Mr Lee Crowson, 22; Mr Simon Truman, 37, of Farnsfield; Mr Danny Truman, 18, of Bilsthorpe; Mr David Farmer, 22, of Bulwell; Mr Paul Williams, 46, of Balderton; Mr Kevin Donson, 46, of Rainworth; Mr Martin Fordham, 47, of Hucknall; Mr Darren Bostock, 23, of Hucknall; Mr Wayne Lebeter, 23, of Hucknall; Mr Barry Lebeter, 27, of Hucknall; Mr James Robinson, 18, of Bilsthorpe; Mr Mark Gibbs, 26 of Hucknall; Mr Nick Waite, 19, of Hucknall; Mr Philip Botting, 18, of Leicester; Mr Craig Maiden, 24, of Hucknall; Mr Richard Downing, 46, of Farnsfield; Mr Adam Evison, 48, of Southwell; Mr Adam Sewell, 21, of Hucknall; Mr Tony Echlin, 41, of Hucknall, and Wayne Massey, 17.
