YMCA Community and Activity Village, Newark, attracts 800 visitors to open day




More than 800 visitors attended a free family fun day on Saturday to mark the opening of the YMCA Community and Activity Village in Newark.

Entertainment included performances from local bands and dancers, sports trials and activities, artisan food stalls and interactive music sessions.

VIPs, local businesses, partners and those who have worked on the ground-breaking project were also invited to a preview event to celebrate the part they played in creating the village, off Bowbridge Road.

Visitors were invited on guided tours inside the village to see the facilities, which include a nursery, business hub, conference centre, strength and conditioning gym, athletics track, football pitches, multi-use courts and the largest climbing centre in the region.

Todd Cauthorn, executive director of YMCA Newark and Sherwood, said: “The fun day was a huge success and it was our chance to thank the local community who have supported the project since the early stages.

Pre-registration for the nursery and for gym membership is now open via the website.

YMCA Newark and Sherwood is a not-for-profit, local charity, enabling members to give back to the range of programmes and services that support children and vulnerable adults across Nottinghamshire.

The football pitches, athletics track and outdoor sports facilities are already open to the local community and the facilities inside the village opening later this summer.
