Newark's Homestart threw a Christmas party for their families

Children and parents receiving help from a charity that supports families enjoyed a bounce-about at their Christmas party.

The festive occasion was held at Barnbygate Methodist Church, Newark, where little ones could have fun with soft play and inflatables while parents relaxed away from the pressures of Christmas.

Newark-based charity Homestart runs the party every year for those who attend its family groups.

Sara Grant, senior organiser at Homestart, said the occasion was a chance for people to have a bit of fun.

“Christmas is when some really feel the pressure because they are meant to be or feel a certain way,” she said.

“Some families are facing social isolation and low mood, often undiagnosed mental health problems, and poverty.

“We try to link them with local services to get through the difficult parts of Christmas.”

There was a full spread of party food, a visit from Santa, and every child was given a gift.

Bounceabout, Newark, provided the soft play equipment targeted towards children of all ages.

Homestart is low on volunteers and is open to applications. Anyone wanting to volunteer should email info@homestartnewark.co.uk or call 01636 70501.
