Newark MP Robert Jenrick visited sustainable packaging company DS Smith to discuss recycling.
Ways of minimising waste and making the best use of resources were discussed when Newark MP Robert Jenrick visited sustainable packaging company DS Smith.
DS Smith employs 56 people at its logistics facility at Tuxford, which is responsible for transporting materials from across its paper and recycling operations.
Responsible for more than 250 operations across the globe, DS Smith runs a successful community programme focused on solving sustainability challenges.
Tuxford depot manager Andy Rowland said DS Smith had also been improving health and safety by reducing the speed limit of its lorries to 20mph outside the local school and running cycle safety workshops with children.
DS Smith gave Mr Jenrick an overview of the company, which is made up of packaging, paper and recycling operations. This supply cycle allows the company to collect, recycle and re-create a cardboard box in 14 days.
The company’s head of government and community affairs, Peter Clayson, focused on the importance of moving to a circular economy following DS Smith’s announcement of a global partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
Insights were also given on how a plastic tax could encourage the use of recycled plastic and stimulate investment in the UK recycling infrastructure.
Robert Jenrick said, “I enjoyed my visit to DS Smith, which is an important employer in my constituency.
“I welcome the opportunity to learn about DS Smith’s expertise in sustainable packaging and its forward-thinking approach to the circular economy and innovation.”
