HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home in Bingham celebrate Burns Night

Residents at a Bingham care home enjoyed a ‘wee bit’ of Scottish tradition this week.

HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home celebrated Burns Night on Saturday, January 25, in true Scottish style with a performance from a major bagpiper.

Burns Night is a celebration of the life of Scotland’s most significant poet Robert Burns, and his legacy and contribution to Scottish culture.

Fosse Way View’s residents gathered in the reception area to watch Pipe Major Billy James perform on the bagpipes and then escort in and address the haggis in traditional style.

Billy shared stories about Robert Burns and the origins of Burns Night, as well as his own journey to becoming the pipe major of a championship-winning pipe band.

For 35 years, he has served as the family piper for the Duke and Duchess of Rutland at Belvoir Castle and has performed for the Royal family, as well as Simon Cowell’s and Gareth Gates’ weddings.

The performance was particularly cherished by the Scottish residents, Jean and Yvonne, who said it brought back fond memories of their heritage. Eleanor even enjoyed a private performance following the dinner of haggis, neeps, and tatties.

Jean said: “It was a marvellous day and how lucky we are to have such a well-travelled musician in our home.”

Elizabeth Wood, HC-One’s Fosse Way View care home manager, said: "Burns Night at Fosse Way View was a truly special celebration, bringing together our residents to honour tradition and enjoy a wonderful evening.

“Billy James' performance on the bagpipes created an unforgettable atmosphere. It was a memorable night that showcased both our community spirit and the rich cultural heritage of Burns Night."
