Newark Sea Cadets invites prospective members to interactive open day
Love getting out on the water, doing adventure training or even flying? Newark Sea Cadets will be hosting a recruitment open day, and members of the public are invited to attend.
The event will feature interactive workshops and informative displays.
It takes place on Saturday, September 18, at the unit on Sherwood Avenue, from 10am to 4pm.
The public can tour the unit, chat to volunteers and cadets, and see some impressive displays, all of which aim to encourage more young people and volunteers to join the unit.
Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Simon Cullen RNR, Newark Sea Cadets’ Commanding Officer, said: “Cadets of any background get the opportunity of a lifetime with sea cadets.
“Life skills that prepare young people for the future. Teamwork, communication, commitment, loyalty, even the ability to iron their own shirts, all while experiencing nautical and adventurous training activities you would struggle to find anywhere else.”
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to get to know other young people in the area and you’ll make some great friends and learn new skills that will give you a great head start in life and will really boost your confidence.”
Newark Sea Cadets, part of national charity Sea Cadets, gives young people a new perspective, broadening their horizons.
The national charity works across the UK with 14,000 young people between ten and 18, helping them to see the world with confidence, gained through the challenge of nautical adventure and a Royal Navy ethos.
Their aim is to help more young people to see the future that they want – and make that future happen.
The unit is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6.45pm to 9.15pm.
