Newark Town Council approves increase in allotment fees on its plots in Barnby Road, Bowbridge Road, Fleming Drive, Hawton Road and St Catherine’s Close
A council has approved an increase to allotment fees beginning October next year.
Newark Town Council, which manages five allotment sites approved the fee increase of 10%.
The town council manages 82 plots on Barnby Road, 67 on Bowbridge Road, 35 on Fleming Drive, 91 on Hawton Road and 28 on St Catherine’s Close.
The increase of 28p per square metre is to keep up with current inflation.
Plots vary in size from 33sqm as the smallest to 480sqm as the largest.
Throughout previous years, plot charges have increased. For the year 23/24, the fees increased 55% costing 25p per sqm.
Every 1% increase on current charges will generate approximately a further £70 in allotment rent income for the council.
Residents will be notified of the changes in the upcoming weeks as allotment charge increases require 12 months' notice.
