Third bird found dead in Newark

Another duck has been found dead in Newark yesterday (Monday).

The mallard was found at the bottom of the Clay Lane ramp in Newark, which leads to the Sustrans cycle track.

There were no visible signs of a gunshot to the bird, but it is feared it was killed by a slingshot.

Jane Mann, who recovered the duck after she was made aware of the incident, said the death was heartbreaking.

Residents reported seeing two youths around the area before the duck was discovered.

The incident has been reported to the police.

It comes after two other birds were found near the pond opposite Barnby Road Academy, Newark, on April 4. A mallard had been shot in the head while a Canada goose died of unknown injuries.
