Southwell and District Lions Club take part is Southwell Town Council’s annual Community Garden Party

Community groups and businesses came together to help bring to life a town’s annual community garden party.

On Saturday (June 8), the War Memorial Recreation Ground, off Bishops Drive in Southwell, was filled with music, traditional fairground rides, displays, competitions, entertainment and food and drinks for all tastes.

The free event, organised by Southwell Town Council, not only brings the community together for a family-friendly fun day, but is a promotional and fundraising opportunity for groups and businesses in the area.

The Southwell and District Lions Club brought their annual Duck Pluck, which helped the charity raise £400 for the Brincliffe Ladies Hockley Club; however, the Lions added money from their charity pot and donated a total of £750 to the team.

At the event, the Lions sold ducks for £1 with the help of the Hockey club and had three children’s swimming pools filled with ducks.

The winning duck won Elisabeth a £60 prize.

Steve Call of Southwell and District Lions Club said: “We decided to support the hockey team because the team is always looking for money, and I never realised how expensive it is to buy their kits and materials.

“The day was exactly what it says, a fun day, it was communal and there were so many different stalls, there was something for everyone, and it is good to see the community come together.”
