Southwell Charity for the Poor and Sick appeal for winter fuel assistance

Help is sought from the financially-able to donate money to those struggling with their winter fuel bills.

The Southwell Charity for the Poor and Sick, which dates from the 17th Century, benefits the people of Southwell and is administered by a body of trustees, who use the income to provide a gift of money at Christmas.

These donations to the less fortunate, some of whom may even be neighbours, have a huge impact on their lives.

Every year, millions of financially-sound people over 65 are given an automatic payment of between £100 and £300 by the Government to cover winter fuel costs.

Last year, more than £3,500 was donated and given to those in need in Southwell, and the charity is asking for similar generosity.
