The annual Poppy Appeal has been launched in Ollerton and Boughton.

The chairman of the Ollerton and District branch of the Royal British Legion, Miss Mavis Ilett, standard bearer Mr Dave Shaw and vice-president Mr Terry Bell sold poppies outside Ollerton’s Tesco.

Last year’s appeal raised about £5,000 and Miss Ilett hopes to better that.

She thought more people than ever would donate after the high number of deaths and injuries suffered recently by British troops in Afghanistan.

Volunteers will be collecting in Tesco, on Forest Road, from tomorrow until November 7.

They will also be in Netto in the run up to Armistice Day, and there are donation boxes at businesses.
