Appeal to reunite owners with missing Border Collie Jim who disappeared from farm yard on Oxton Road, Southwell

The owners of a dog missing for over a month are holding out hope they will be reunited.

Border Collie Jim went missing from a farm yard on Oxton Road, Southwell, on Sunday, July 21, and despite multiple search efforts has not been seen since.

Liz Bagley, whose son is Jim’s owner, said: “I’m feeling gutted, it happened while I was on holiday and I wanted to come back to help find him.

“He’s never disappeared before, never gone off the farm, he’s always with my son. He’s a lovely dog.”

Liz’s son had briefly gone to the end of the road at the farm yard, and when he returned Jim was nowhere to be seen.

His disappearance was reported to Notts Lost Dogs SAR the following day, who advised the family to put out scent items and allow free access back to the yard, as well as alerting the dog warden, police and microchip company.

Kim Jefcott, founder of Notts Lost Dogs SAR, said: “I arranged for a thermal drone pilot to meet me at the farm the next day. Sadly nothing was found that evening.

“Posters were put up in the immediate area and a post on our Facebook group was being shared widely. A few days later we had a tracker dog, from North K9 Lost Dogs, come out to track Jim's scent. We had a positive track but had to stop due to heat.

“Subsequently we had the drone out again in the area tracked but to no avail, and we had the tracker dog back but the scent was disappearing.

“We've searched the area on foot checking grass verges, woods, and streams, and had baited cameras up to see if there was any activity.”

A dedicated Facebook page has also been set up to help raise awareness of Jim’s disappearance.

Liz added: “I’ve got posters, I keep putting them out everywhere — I’ve spent ages out in the fields.

“We’ve got a camera and I thought one day I’d seen him, I got so excited but it was a rabbit.”

Kim explained that it is ‘not unusual’ for there to be no sightings of dogs in rural areas, as they often go into survival mode and are able to fend for themselves for weeks or months.

“We don't believe he's been stolen, I personally strongly believe he's still around the area of the farm,” Kim added.

Jim is black and white adult dog, and if sighted should not be shouted, chased, or grabbed.

Any sightings or information regarding Jim’s whereabouts should be shared on 07581 694984 or 07584 123037.
