The Yasmine McClory Foundation, of Sutton-on-Trent, opens applications for SEND outdoor activity adventure days

Children with disabilities are now being offered the chance to take part in special adventure days thanks to the dedication of a new foundation.

The Yasmine McClory Foundation was launched in 2024 in memory of Yasmine McClory, of Sutton-on-Trent, who died suddenly in February 2024.

The Foundation was created by her parents and siblings to keep Yasmine and her legacy alive by supporting causes she was passionate about, including food poverty, mental health in the LGBTQ+ community, and children with learning disabilities.

After launching a private counselling programme for the LGBTQ+ community and a festive fundraiser for families last year, the Foundation is now opening applications for its fully funded SEND outdoor adventure days, which will offer inclusive experiences like climbing, canoeing, and paddle-boarding.

These trips are designed to address the challenges schools face in offering such activities due to funding or staffing limitations. Each day will be tailored to the students’ individual needs, helping participants build confidence, resilience, and friendships in a safe and supportive environment.

"These activity days offer SEND children a rare opportunity to safely challenge themselves, develop new skills, and find a supportive community of peers," said Jess McClory, Yasmine’s sister and spokesperson for the foundation. "We work closely with local providers to ensure every child has an unforgettable experience."

The program is aimed at SEND children and young people who would benefit from these enriching outdoor activities, and you can apply for an adventure day by visiting the foundation’s website at www.yasminemccloryfoundation.org.uk/our-work/youth-activities.

Applications are open to education staff working with children in Key Stages 1 to 4.
