Southwell apprentice at B&B Tractors, near Edwinstowe, wins Midlands Agricultural Engineering Apprentice Awards
An apprentice from Southwell is one of four winners in this year’s Midlands Agricultural Engineering Apprentice Awards.
Frazer Cross, who works at B&B Tractors, near Edwinstowe, has been given £500 towards pursuing his career.
The winners were chosen by judges from Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society, which funds the awards with support from Geoffrey Bond, a former president of the county show.
The awards, in their fourth year, aim to support young people as they develop the skills for agricultural careers. They have helped 34 so far.
The society’s chief executive, Simon Eccleston, said: “Investing in youth and supporting the next wave of agricultural engineering talent is a key part of our ongoing education programme.”
Geoffrey Bond said: “I’m delighted these four young people are doing so well in their apprenticeships. I hope this award is a fitting recognition for all the hard work they have been putting in.”
Frazer said: “I love the challenge and satisfaction of repairing something and seeing it go back to work
“I’ve driven a fair few tractors in my time and see them all around where we live so applied for a job at B&B Tractors and then became an agricultural engineer, which has been great.
“I’d love to become a master technician one day and train a new apprentice.”
The other winners were Lewis Woodward, also of B&B Tractors, Liam Wright of the Canal and River Trust, and Owen Bradley, of Chandlers at Spilsby.
