Approval granted for demolition of four houses on Yorke Drive estate in Newark

Approval has been granted for the demolition of four houses in Newark as part of an estate regeneration project.

The scheme for Yorke Drive was granted planning permission in 2019 but has been delayed because of necessary redesigns and cost issues.

Plans include the demolition and redevelopment of up to 320 homes on the estate and the northern portion of the Lincoln Road playing fields.

There will also be a new sports pavilion and playing fields, new access road off Lincoln Road, and improvements to the road network and environment to help make it a safer and better place to live.

Members of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning committee unanimously voted to support knocking down four homes opposite the estate’s playing fields.

The properties have been vacant since August 2020 and are considered unfit for habitation. They have been subject to anti-social behaviour.

Approval for the demolition has been granted subject to a list of conditions.

For example, the work must take place within three years of the application approval date and no demolition should be undertaken during the bird nesting period of early March to late August without a prior ecology inspection.
