Newark-based artist creates Around Newark 2026 calendar

An artist has brought buildings and their stories to life through designs featured in a new calendar.

Newark-based painter Tony Goulding is well known around town for his work, which often depicts landmarks across Newark and Sherwood or arts based around aviation.

Tony first started painting and selling his calendars four years ago and due to their popularity, he never stopped.

Tony first began developing his love of painting during his career in the RAF, first producing detailed cartoons and caricatures, before specialising in aviation art.

Ever since, he exhibited in different locations, including the former Arcade Framing Gallery in Newark, the Spotlight Gallery in Newark Town Hall and the Chess Master Café in Southwell.

The 2026 calendars that Tony has designed are for sale now in independent businesses across the area.

Each month depicts a different building that has caught the artist’s eye and heart, including one in Southwell.

“It is a very nice feeling knowing that people like the calendars and I always have a buzz when I sell them,” he said.

“Knowing that some people collect them and others send them across the globe to places such as Australia, Canada, the US and even New Zealand, to people who used to live in Newark, it's amazing.”

The calendars cost £12 and are for sale at Serendale, on Appletongate; Newark Art Gallery on Kirkgate — where the artist paints most of his designs; Cards & More on Cartergate; Tasty, and at Any Occasion, both on Brisbane Court, Balderton.
