Artist Charlotte Walker who commercially goes by the name Charlotte Anne is selling calendars for next year which depict nature and wildlife of the Nottinghamshire area, she spoke to the Advertiser about her art journey, working in Afghanistan with the civil service and graphic design





A talented artist who lives in the area has created a beautiful calendar for 2024 and has also produced several other Christmas gifts.

Charlotte Walker who is known commercially as Charlotte Anne but also goes by Cas, works out of her home in the Charlotte Anne studio near Collingham.

She has put her designs on a variety of products including bags, mugs, and prints.

Charlotte has created a calendar for 2024 and said she drew inspiration from the surrounding countryside for her creations.

The calendar features wildlife and country landscapes.

"We love living here," said Charlotte about Nottinghamshire.

"It is an absolutely beautiful area."

"If people are local, I normally deliver them so they don't have to pay postage," said Charlotte.

"You can buy the calendars at The Allotment Kitchen and Deli in Collingham.

"You can buy some of my cards there as well.

"Beyond Coffee also sells the calendars, as does Hardy's Garden Centre in Farndon.

"It is great to have the support of local businesses."

Charlotte said that art has been a constant presence in her life for as long as she could remember.

"I have always been interested in art," said Charlotte.

"In primary school, I was very lucky to have a talented art teacher who saw my potential and encouraged me.

"I decided to do an A-level in art and went on to art college at Falmouth.

"When I went to Falmouth I decided to do a graphic design degree as I thought it was more practical.

"I realised that art is not always a great source of income for everyone.

"Graphic design is a way for me to be creative and still be able to make a living.

"Art is a very big part of my life so I love to create it."

Charlotte who is a multi-media artist has a range of skills including using watercolour, acrylic, paper-cutting, illustration, and digital techniques.

She is originally from Cornwall and grew up mainly in Liskeard.

Charlotte owns her own Graphic Design Agency, Flying Lizard Design Ltd, and a sister Illustration company, Charlotte Anne Studio.

Charlotte moved to Nottinghamshire with her husband a few years ago for work.

"Everyone has been so welcoming to us and the local community is very supportive.

"We are very happy living here and I have met some great artists in Collingham."

Charlotte operates her graphic design business from home and also works on her art which she has adapted over the years.

She previously worked in the civil service and was deployed to Afghanistan to provide graphic design services to the military and Ministry of Defence.

"I was designing training materials, posters, signage, anything you can think of that you might need on a military base.

"We were also working on a hearts and minds campaign to drum up support from the locals.

"I designed some of the items used and also did some literature for schools explaining to children what to do in certain situations.

"We made a graphic novel that went into schools, I enjoyed the experience but was happy to come home."

Charlotte continues to work on her range of products and said she would like to focus on illustration.

"At the moment I am mostly graphics for the tourist industry.

"I do a lot of illustration already, my graphic style is very illustrative.

"It is illustration rather than photographs.

"My art style was originally more photographic but I have evolved the style I use now.

"I started doing this style about a year ago which was different to fine art because I find it is more commercial and people like it because it is visually pleasing.

"It has taken me several years to figure it out and develop the style."

She has also won an award with Wraptious, a well-known company that champions artists and now stocks her products.
