Asda at last
I am delighted that Asda has finally announced a start date for the long-awaited Potterdyke development (Asda On The Way, Advertiser, March 5).
In typical Newark style, this is an issue that has been rumbling on for far too many years.
I am convinced that if Asda had made a similar application in any other town, the planning process would have been complete and the store built long ago.
Well done to Asda for staying the course with Newark.
The former Robin Hood Hotel is a safety risk and an embarrassment, and has been for many years. The sooner it is demolished the better.
When I moved here ten years ago I was reading stories in the Advertiser about how the building was an eyesore and needed to be demolished.
My only concern about the development is the disruption it is going to cause for residents and visitors.
Driving through the town centre is already a nightmare, made worse thanks to the ridiculous decision to change the crossing outside the Gilstrap Centre.
Add temporary bus stops to the equation, and I can imagine it is going to bring chaos for drivers and pedestrians alike.
I just hope it will not deter much-needed visitors and shoppers from coming to this fine town.
