NatWest submit application to removed ATM and strip fixtures after closing Newark Market Place branch in June
A town centre ATM is set to be removed as a bank prepares to pull out of Newark.
In January, NatWest announced that it would be permanently closing its Newark branch, at 1 Market Place, from June 17, 2025.
The bank said the decision was made due to “customers’ changing needs and expectations” as well as an larger shift towards digital banking.
Now, NatWest have submitted an application to strip the grade-two listed building back of its banking fixtures, and materials to be to reinstated where required.
As part of this, external ATM and Nightsafe components will be removed, as well as existing signage.
Internally non-original signage, fixtures, fittings, furniture, and equipment relating to the operation the bank will also be removed.
The applicant states that “the scope of removal work to the building will be minimal” and that “removals will cause no harm or loss to the original building”
It is also stated that materials used to infill the external wall once the ATM is removed will match original details.
Newark Town Council raised no objection to the proposals. Newark and Sherwood District Council will have the final decision.
