A children’s author visited two primary schools and staged activities based around his books.

Mr James Nicol, author of The Apprentice Witch, has just had a sequel published — A Witch Alone.

Previously a bookseller for 12 years, he now works in a library as well as writing children’s books.

Mr Nicol, of Cambridgeshire, visited Barnby Road Academy, Newark, and John Blow Primary School, Collingham.

The visits were organised by his friend, Kate Hancock, manager of Newark cluster libraries.

Mr Nicol will return to the area in July to take part in Newark Book Festival.
