Founder of Positive Pants and co-founder of Positively Empowered Kids CIC is touring schools across the county for free wellbeing sessions
An author is bringing free school tours to help children to pull on their “Positive Pants” and build positive mindsets and boost wellbeing.
Claire Clements, of Newark, founder of Positive Pants and co-founder of the Positively Empowered Kids CIC, has started visiting primary schools across the county, offering assemblies at no cost to schools.
Her aim is to help as many children as possible develop positive mental health habits — something she’s passionate about from her own experience.
Having suffered from depression, a number of chronic health conditions and bullying in the workplace, Claire said she knows the feeling of needing an extra boost of confidence on a daily basis.
When her daughter was five years old, Claire, who used to create family photo albums, decided to create an inspirational quotes book, where she included the quote ‘put on your positive pants’.
From other parents’ positive reactions to the quote, she decided to bring the quote into a physical thing and start a Positive Pants business, for both children and adults.
She said: “Schools are struggling with their budgets right now, and I wanted to find a way to reach as many children as possible with wellbeing tools.
“School is where children spend most of their time, so I thought, if I can get into schools, I can have the biggest impact.”
Her visits centre on her book, Put on Your Positive Pants, an uplifting story of a young girl who wakes up feeling sad and doesn’t know why.
Throughout the day, with her mum’s support, she tries a variety of activities known to boost wellbeing, from simple mindfulness to creative play, and the little girl learns tools to boost her mood that she can use whenever she needs them.
Claire added: “The book is about helping children feel empowered.
“By the end of the story, they’ve learned techniques they can use again and again.”
Claire’s lively assemblies include the specially written Positive Pants theme song to get children engaged, followed by a reading, wellbeing exercises, and a chance for questions.
So far, Claire has visited six schools, with more planned for the autumn school term.
Lee Harrison, headteacher at Christ Church CofE Primary School in Newark, said: “It was wonderful to see Claire share her story and enthusiasm for writing.
“Mental health is so vitally important, and to have literature designed for our young learners around a positive mindset is fantastic. It was a wonderful experience.”
